Makyla is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and holds a Utah Professional Educator License. Now in her tenth school year at Elizabeth Academy, she supports students through individual sessions, small groups, classroom lessons, and by connecting families with community resources. Makyla is a proud Elizabeth Academy parent and her 1st grader has attended EA since 2020.
Makyla supports our students through individual work, small groups, class lessons, and connecting families to resources. She loves using child-centered play as a way to support children and teach important age-appropriate social/emotional skills. She’s a firm believer in trauma-informed care and loves being an advocate for children. For the past five years, she has served as a practicum field instructor for the University of Utah and supervises graduate level social work students.
Before joining the EA team in 2017, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology from Westminster College. She received her Master of Social Work degree at the University of Utah, focusing on mental health and child welfare. She completed her practicum at Canyons School District and The Road Home and has additional volunteer experience with The Children’s Center Utah, Crisis Text Line, and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
Outside of school, she loves spending time with her family and chocolate lab. She loves traveling, doing puzzles, visiting museums, and getting crafty.
