From a young girl April has always been passionate about the arts. She received a BFA from SUNY Purchase in 2001 and migrated from the east coast to SLC in 2002.
She began her teaching career in 2006 at UMOCA running after school programs in collaboration with the SLC school district as well as other community centers such as The Road Home. Students were brought to the museum to look at, talk about, and make art. In 2007 she started teaching at Bad Dog Arts, a non-profit arts organization, where she was also the Programs Coordinator. In this position she focused on bringing arts programming into Title I schools as well as offering various art opportunities for all ages in our community. She was hired at Elizabeth Academy as the Secondary Art teacher in 2022, teaching grades 7-12. She joined the Primary campus as the Visual Arts Teacher in 2025.
She strongly believes in the importance of art education to foster creativity, self awareness, and perseverance as well as to help develop critical thinking, confidence, and creative problem solving skills. She strives to inspire her students to find their individual art language and nurtures their creative journey along the way.
