Prep for Life: Middle School and High School
Two campuses, one mission. The journey of enlightenment continues at the Elizabeth Academy Secondary Campus, located in the historic Garfield Building at 1838 South 1500 South in Sugar House.
At Elizabeth Academy, Montessori secondary students are also multi-age-grouped (as they are at the primary levels) but they advance in two-year cohorts. This creates a sense of community and continuity and follows scientific planes of childhood development throughout adolescence. Middle School has one cohort of 7th-8th grade and High School consists of two cohorts of 9th-10th, and 11th-12th grade. Both groups of Middle and High School students work within their groups and together as a whole secondary community.
Secondary students in 7th to 12th grades benefit from a 1:4 student-to-teacher ratio, small class sizes, individualized education programming, interdisciplinary education programming, and end-of-year trips (local and out-of-state).
Our unique and innovative secondary program combines Montessori philosophy with classical arts, creative arts, and sciences. Embracing students of all abilities, beliefs, and backgrounds.
We respect and embrace all kinds of diversity at Elizabeth Academy. However, our inclusive focus is on disability, specifically intellectual disability. The neurodiversity of our classrooms enhances our curriculum — giving a voice to students who have traditionally been marginalized by society. Ours is an educational model of reciprocity; meaning that all students benefit from embedded models of peer leadership in an educational setting.
Our middle and high school students benefit from beyond-the-book learning opportunities. Our curriculum encourages leadership and peer mentorship opportunities, concurrent enrollment options, performing arts opportunities, vocational certifications (Salt Lake Community College and the University of Utah), clubs and electives, arts integration, and educational enrichment in experiential, service, and project-based learning.
