Shawn Crawford

Shawn has a Bachelor of Arts degree from American Public University and expects to complete a Master of Arts degree in Social Innovation and Sustainability from Goddard College in 2017. Prior to working at Elizabeth Academy, Shawn was a philosophy instructor and experiential educator at the Oakley School, a therapeutic boarding school, where he worked with children ranging from 14 - 18 years old with various social disorders and learning differences. Since 2013, Shawn has been a  a guide and naturalist with the Canyonlands Field Institute, working with children ranging in age from 6 - 18 years. Shawn also has experience as the Director of Outdoor Recreation and Environmental Education for Another Way Montessori School in Park City, Utah. In addition to being a professional river guide, Shawn is also a children's ski instructor with Park City Ski Resort, a swiftwater rescue technician, a wilderness first responder, a single pitch (rock climbing) instructor, a backcountry skier and a hard shell kayaker. When not reviewing the philosophical works of Martin Heidegger or Zen philosopher Dogen, Shawn is either making plans for, or enjoying, his next river trip with his daughter.
