The Emerging/Early Childhood classroom is a simplified version of the Early Childhood classrooms, with the same philosophy and concepts. It incorporates the curriculum from the established Montessori Toddler program, along with an introduction to the beginning materials used in the Early Childhood class, mainly from the Practical Life and Sensorial section. We aid in the development of the whole child with the preliminary aspects of practical life skills i.e. gaining independence, focus of attention, control and coordination, grace and courtesies and care of self. The young children learn to use the toilet all the while learning to control their bodies in other ways as well. We introduce the concepts of everyday life by encouraging the children to do for themselves with the help of an adult. Simplified concepts are taught such as the sounds of the letters, shapes, discrimination of shape and size and the quantity and symbols of numbers. We also give the children communication and verbal tools for socialization and to help them with conflict resolution so that they can become contributing members of a positive community.
