The Emerging Community provides a safe and nurturing environment that encourages exploration and discovery and allows for freedom of movement. Children refine their language and motor skills and practice practical life skills such as hand washing, using the toilet, getting dressed, cleaning up a wet spill and sweeping the floor. They learn social skills and how to apply them in their interactions with other children.

The curriculum is designed to foster curiosity, self confidence, respect for self and others, and independence. The “I can do it myself” of children of this age is supported by giving them the guidance and encouragement to accomplish tasks on their own. Activities such as pouring, transferring and bead stringing strengthen fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and concentration.   Additional materials foster intellectual development, build a foundation for academic learning and help children become more aware of themselves and the world around them.
