The Early Childhood Montessori Curriculum is comprehensive, the main branch of the Montessori method in general, and focuses on a stage in childhood when the mind is most absorbent.  The materials are of high quality, developmentally expansive and integrative.  They  are divided into 5 areas:  Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Math and Culture.  For more explanation about these materials and how they are utilized in the classroom, read through a copy of one or both of the following books:  The Pink What? and A Parent’s Guide to the Montessori classroom, available in our reception area.

The Early Childhood class at Elizabeth Academy is a 3-year program encompassing the years traditionally called pre-school through kindergarten.  This program allows the child to focus on order and self-mastery through the works in the environment and to become familiar with academic concepts through concrete manipulation of the works.  When children can choose their own works, a love of learning and intrinsic motivation results and prepares them for a lifetime of discovery, exploration and accelerated education.  The typical Early Childhood graduate is well prepared to enter and contribute to the Montessori Elementary classroom and advanced upon entering a traditional public school 1st Grade.
